Device issues

Hi, I am using AudioMoth (version 1.1.0) for my data collection in India. I have some issues with a few of my devices:

1) One recorder doesn’t have a switch to turn the recorder on or off

2) One recorder is always showing battery level < 3.6V in the configuration app

3) One recorder is storing audio files, but it’s just white noise; the PCB of the same recorder is detached from the battery holder on one side.

Can someone help me solve these issues or connect me to people who can assist with that?

Hi,

It sounds like these are hardware issues. For (1) has the switch broken off, or does it not work? For (2), does the device record if you put batteries in and switch to DEFAULT? It may be a problem with the battery sensing circuit, or the battery supply circuit. For (3), this is most likely water damage to the microphone. In most cases, if this is general wear-and-tear to well used devices, then repair isn't economically feasible.

The switch is repairable - either by replacing it or replacing the workings. There's a thread here that describes the process - https://www.openacousticdevices.info/support/device-support/simple-audiomoth-switch-repair?origin=notification.

If it's recording then you can probably still use the device. There is most likely some corrosion on the battery sense circuit. It might be possible to clean the printed circuit board to remove this.

The microphone is replaceable - it's a Knowles SPU0410LR5H-QB model. Most electronics engineers with access to a hot air gun would be able to replace this and then re-glue the PCB. Alex
