AudioMoth loosing configuration after 3 days

Hi, I am doing a long-term acoustics study with 10 recorders. Every 5 days, batteries and SD cards are changed and recorders are rotated between locations. SD cards are recalibrated every 5-day period. I use the Chime app when turning Audiomoths on.

Configuration settings:

  • 32 kHz

  • med gain

  • scheduled 90 min before sunrise to sunset using GPS coordinates

When I check the SD cards, they have been recording correctly for the first 3 days of data collection, but on days 4 and 5, only the first 10-15 min (averaging at 13 min) after sunrise has been recorded. This has been happening to all 10 audiomoths for multiple weeks despite reconfiguring every 5 days.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues or knows of a resolutions. I still have 3 months of data collection left, so resolving this would be ideal (otherwise I'll take data for every 3 in 5 days, I guess).

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi Tyler, Can you use the 'Summarise Audiomoth Files' option under the 'Process' menu in the Config App to generate a summary of one of the SD card's contents. It looks like the files are getting smaller which is indicative of the batteries running down and the AudioMoth stopping the recordings early. However, the file sizes in the screenshot look a bit strange. If you open one of the files in AudioMoth Play and check on the 'File Information' the WAV header will describe why the file is shorter than requested. What make and model of batteries and SD cards are you using? Alex
