Hi Everyone!

I am a new AudioMoth user, and recently did a test run in my yard. I am a landscape architect / environmental designer mostly working on programming and management plans in conservation areas. My background is in design, and I lack any highly technical training in biology/ecology. I am hoping to use the AudioMoth to ID species on some of the sites I'm working on and use that information to determine whether public access is appropriate in certain areas, and if so, use the IDed species to help inform types of educational programming.

I am aware of the OpenSoundscape software, but I haven't been able to install it. I have literally zero knowledge or understanding of Python, so I'm thinking this might not be the best option for me...? I've tried to follow the directions here https://github.com/kitzeslab/opensoundscape, but haven't had success yet. I have a few questions:

1) If I'm able to get it installed, is Python necessary to use the software?

2) Are there other programs available to aid in the identification of species in the audio recording? I could probably get my university's IT department to purchase a license for another program...

Thanks in advance for any advice! I'm new to the world of soundscape ecology, and maybe in a bit over my head, but I'm really excited to learn as much as possible, and very hopeful about being able to use the AudioMoth in field research.
