AudioMoth v1.2.0 recording failure

Hi,

I purchased an AudioMoth v1.2.0 on February 25 from LABmaker

It arrived and looks fine, but I am having difficulty recording on it. I am using brand new, fully charged lithium batteries. I also have tried two different brand new microSD cards (SanDisk 128gb Extreme, and SanDisk 128gb Extreme Pro). The AudioMoth seems to connect to the configuration app fine and turns on, but when I start recording it will record for a short period of time (red light blinking) and then blink rapidly red for a second or two, followed by red and green simultaneous blinking, which I am fairly certain indicates a recording error. It has recorded a couple of files, but quickly reverts to the recording error. I do not have another AudioMoth device on which to test, but from what I have seen in the online forums this is usually an issue with either the card, the batteries, or the board itself. I'm using the recommended card or better and new batteries so it seems to me that this is a problem with the AudioMoth. I have tried recording  in both custom and default modes and installed older firmware and tried on that as well with the same results. This is my first AudioMoth, so I'm feeling frustrated. Am I missing something?

Please advise on how I should proceed.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Michael Clauss

The SanDisk Extreme 64GB card is very reliable. The larger cards have higher write currents, especially the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards. Our new favourite model is the Kingston Canvas Select Plus which has really low energy consumption (apart from the 256GB card). I think the problem is possibly the lithium-ion batteries. These will have a voltage regulator to reduce the internal 3.6V cell voltage down to 1.5V and that regulaor often can't supply the peak write current. Try with regular alkaline batteries or NiMH rechargeable batteries.
