Audiomoth malfunction

Hello,

We have currently deployed 55 audiomoth in Indre (France) from March 14 to July 10. Many of them have already been used in 2025 over a similar period, they are equipped with an external EM 272 microphone and installed in a case (custom 3D printing) to be protected.

Currently, we are experiencing an issue with several audiomoths, which is as follows: some audiomoths run for a few days before stopping, some only last 3 or 4 days, and others 8 or 9 days. We use the chime in programming to systematically launch the audiomoths and record every night from 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise.

We check the SD cards (SanDisk Extreme 32Gb A1 U3 V30) every 10 days and change the batteries (Eneloop 2000NiMH).

Is this recording problem coming from the SD card, the batteries, or even the audiomoths?

We are trying to understand where the problem may come from, but without a solution for now.

Best regards,

Tristan

Hi,

Can you use the ‘Summarise AudioMoth Files’ option under the ‘Process’ menu in the Config App to generate a summary of one of the SD cards so we can see what it recorded.
