I have been experimenting with filling the HydroMoth case with mineral oil to see if it improves sound transmission underwater.
Preliminary results seemed to show that the oil dampened the rhythmic ticking of the SD card reads resonating within the air of the box, so that was a positive. Unfortunately in the process some oil got under the o-ring, and it was damaged when I closed the case again.
Two questions- 1. has anyone had any luck filling the HydroMoth case with oil, and 2. is there a place to purchase replacement o-rings?
Thank you!
That sounds like an interesting result. Did you manage to compare the sensitivity to external sounds? I'm not sure what effect the oil would have on the MEMS microphone. Email andy@openacousticdevices.info and he'll probably be able to supply spare o-rings.
