Hi all, I run a little citizen science frog monitoring project in the south-west of Western Australia. I'm super excited because I've just managed to secure enough community funding for 10 AudioMoth units. But I saw in the recent End of Summer Update that there is a new revision of AudioMoth ("version 1.1.0") to make it more robust. Is that a revision to the actual physical unit? If so, do you have any approximate timing as to when that will be in production? (I probably only have one shot at buying these units so don't want to buy the current model if an improved one is not too far away.)
Any insights would be most appreciated. Thank you.
wes
Hi, Yes, it's a change to the hardware but a pretty minor one - we move the switch and the SD card inboard a little bit so that they do not extend beyond the edges of the board to packaging in small containers safer. We're doing a test build with a PCB assembler at the moment and then the next group purchase will run with this updated version. We're aiming for delivery of the next group purchase toward the end of November / early December. Alex
Thank you so much for the speedy reply, Alex, that's great information. I'll have a bit of a think and a chat with my collaborators and go from there. Best wishes, wes.
Hi again Alex. At the risk of seeming like my kids in the lead-up to Christmas (i.e. impatient), I was wondering if you had an update on when the next GroupGets round might commence? We've decided to wait for the new version (1.1.0) of the unit and I saw in a couple of other posts that you expected the next round to begin before the end of the year. Is that still the case, as far as you know? Thanks, wes
I would also like an update on when the new model will be available for purchase, how many will be available and where they can be purchased.
Thank you
A bit later than planned but we are just about to do a test run with CircuitHub to ensure that the updated designs have no issues and then we'll be doing a group buy through GroupGets at the very start of January.
Alex,
Do purchasers need to meet a minimum order requirement to participate in the group buy? I would like to purchase 3 units for a pilot study in Maine, USA, which I plan to start in May 2019. Once an order is made, what is the turn around time for receiving the units in the mail?
@Sarah Dodgin Hi, There is no minimum order size - the average ordr size in the last round was 4. The turnaround time varies a bit as it depends on stock levels from the PCB assembler but it is normally about a month from the round closing. They are also available at LabMaker if you need them for immediate shipping. Alex
Fantastic, Alex, thanks so much for the update. I appreciate that this mustn't be an easy thing to co-ordinate. Good luck. Thanks!
There's a purchase round open now https://groupgets.com/active_campaigns/499-audiomoth-v1-1-0-round-6?utm_source=GroupGets+News+and+Updates&utm_campaign=d425f18e09-Email_Campaign-New_Campaigns_and_IoT_Bootcamp_COPY&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_02ac2c415d-d425f18e09-183871281&mc_cid=d425f18e09&mc_eid=7a8d0b6fcf
Thanks David. Exciting news. My order is in!
Are there any new purchasing rounds open on the various websites that sell AudioMoths? I would like to purchase 20 units for various bat acoustic projects. Thanks!
We're just waiting for the current one to ship and should be launching the next one in a couple of weeks.
