I am a design student and I am doing a conceptual project in which I would need to use this sensor. Would it work the same way if you put it inside a 3.5mm thick plastic case? How far does the microphone record approximately? Thanks and sorry for the foolish questions

Hi Regards casing, have Audiomoth made or finished the design for an acrylic case that was mentioned earlier in the year
Would some of the ’other’ organisations that have made their own cases for Audiomoth care to share their design / component suppliers for the rest of us to consider perhaps ?
I'm planning on using the 0.07L Really Useful Box. The only downside is that the lid is not watertight. I do have a supply of silicone moulding rubber which I will use to cast some seals in the box lids. I'm keen to get hold of some of those stickers to seal over the microphone hole I will have to make. Anyone want to do a trade or is willing to sell me a small number?
Thanks Andy. Our order arrived safely today. Play time.
Yes, that is correct.
I've got some nice little circuit board boxes to stick my detectors in. I'm going to ask a question which I think I know the answer to, but if I don't ask it, I'll end up being wrong. Is the "entrance" for the microphone that little hole in the centre of the microphone symbol on the circuit board?
Hi David,
Unfortunately I haven't seen these in retail stores yet, suppliers usually want you to bulk order 1000+, but you could try to email GORE, they may be able to send free samples - https://www.gore.com/resources/gore-acoustic-vents-product-models-gaw337-gaw338?icmp=call-to-action-other_gaw337-338-launch_portable-electronic-vents_us
Here is another supplier - https://voir.en.alibaba.com/product/60380452525-801219240/e_PTFE_acoustic_membrane_for_speaker_and_mic_IP67_waterproof_sticker.html
Cheers, Andy
Hi Peter,
I can't find a UK retail source for these stickers - could say where you got yours from?

Hi Vianna,
For all cases we've used we have drilled a small hole over the location of the microphone and covered it with a small sticker made to allow through audio and prevent liquid from getting in. As for recording range, it depends entirely on the frequency and volume of the sound you're listening for. We've made recordings of gunshots 800m away through dense rainforest and they're still audible in the recording.
