I'm trying to use an external mic with my AudioMoth and researched one that should work for my needs, namely the Smart Clippy EM272 mic. I didn't realize at the time I bought it that it uses a TRRS plug -- one with three rings instead of two. I'm wondering if that makes a difference vs a TRS plug? Because all I'm getting in my recordings using that external mic is steady 100% static.
* My file metadata shows "using external microphone", so the AM indeed knows an external mic is there. It does not say "using external microphone" when the mic is unplugged, so the AM knows when an external mic is not there.
* I flashed the firmware with the batteries removed, a tip I saw elsewhere in the forums. I tried this both with the mic plugged in and unplugged. That didn't work.
