Hello,
I was wonder if anyone has tried using Adafruit Ultimate GPS with a Audiomoth before? If so, which pins connect to what between the GPS module and recorder? I have a bunch of Adafruit Ultimate GPS module from a different project that I could put to good use if I can connect them to my audiomoth v1.2.0? Thank you in advance.
Hi,
It would be possible to connect it by connecting the 3.3V, GND, PPS and TX pins on the Adafruit board to the AudioMoth GPIO header as per the green connections in the application sheet:
https://github.com/OpenAcousticDevices/Application-Notes/blob/master/Using_the_AudioMoth_GPS_Board_and_Hat/Using_the_AudioMoth_GPS_Board_and_Hat.pdf
However, the AudioMoth GPS Board and GPS Hat also includes a MOSFET to switch the GPS receiver on and off. Without this circuit, the Adafruit Ultimate GPS module will remain powered between recordings consuming about 20-30mA so it will be quite a big additional drain on the batteries.
The module is exactly the same as that used by the AudioMoth GPS Board so aside from the energy consumption the performance will be the same.
