I never knew that you could get a just a charging cable and not a data line. I have just tried three different cables and one worked!! Thank you so much for your help!
@jchambler Yes, it’s really annoying as they are rarely marked. Security-wise it’s safer if you are charging an Android phone, but the original USB specification didn’t consider it as an option so there is no way for the devices to detect it.
This is most likely the USB cable. Many are charging cables and have no data lines inside them. Check that it has a USB logo on it and try another one if you can. What operating system are you using in the computer?
@Eric Mattson Hi Eric, Can you share the CONFIG.TXT file that the AudioMoth generated. Have you tried switching the DEFAULT to make an instantaneous continuous recording? Alex
@Alex Rogers I was so frustrated i earsed the folder immediately. I am now seeking a (real) USB cable. Thanks for the info, i would have never known otherwise. will test in next hours or so...
@Eric Mattson If you can see the AudioMoth in the Config App (can you post a screenshot) and the time is updating then the cable is fine. I think you may not have set a recording period in the Config App? You should just be able to switch to DEFAULT with any configuration and it will start recording immediately.
I have just tried the configure app and that doesn't register the AudioMoth either. On the outside of the AudioMoth it is 1.2.0 but as my computer doesn't register it I cannot confirm the firmware version. The app just doesn't seem to register it and the computer doesn't register that anything has been plugged in. The green light does come on on the AudioMoth when its plugged in though.
Do the other apps communicate with the AudioMoth? Can you confirm which firmware version the devices have installed? What actually happens when you try to set the time with the Time App?
