Hello, I’m working with an AudioMoth (firmware v1.2.0) and I’m unable to configure it via USB. When I connect it to my computer with a known‐good cable, nothing happens on the PC side—no device is recognized—although the green LED lights continuously, confirming power. I’ve confirmed that both the batteries and cable are fully functional.
In Default mode, the red LED blinks as expected, indicating the unit is recording with stock settings. In Custom mode, the green LED remains solid and the red LED blinks, again suggesting the hardware itself is operational. However, when I switch the board to USB‐interface mode for configuration, it remains completely inactive: the AudioMoth does not appear to the configuration utility, and it does not display the time or allow any setting changes.
I’ll attach a photo of the device and my USB setup for reference.
Question: Has anyone encountered this issue or can suggest troubleshooting steps to restore USB connectivity and enable configuration mode? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
I found this possible solution, Bootloader Flash Procedure (AudioMoth v1.x) as following:
Download the latest AudioMoth Flash App and firmware (v1.10+) from Open Acoustic Devices.
Remove the batteries.
Set the side switch to the middle USB/OFF position.
While plugging in the USB cable, briefly short the two small gold BOOT pads (top PCB edge) with a paperclip. The LEDs should change pattern—this means you’re in bootloader mode.
Open the Flash App, choose the new firmware file, click Flash, and wait for “Success.”
Unplug, insert fresh batteries, reconnect (still in USB/OFF) and the Configuration App should start automatically.
Question: In the photo I’ve attached, can someone point out which pair of gold pads are the BOOT pads?
Thank you in advance for your help! :)

Did you manage to resolve this?
Hi Emina, You don't need to reflash the AudioMoth. The AudioMoth seems to be working fine. Can you check the CONFIG.TXT file that it will have written. This will tell you the firmware name and version number. The problem is most likely on the PC side. What operating system are you using? 95% of connection problems are due to a charging cable being used that doesn't support data transfer. Try another cable to be sure. Then the problem is possibly a Windows driver issue. If you go to Device Manager in Windows you should be able to see the AudioMoth listed under USB devices and it will report what driver it is using. Alex
