With other equipment I've used to record bats, I've either had a calibration matrix (a scope of different frequencies relevant for bat research played at different dB levels and the the distance within which the specific frequency at a certain dB level could be detected) available from the manufacturer or I've had to do one myself for the specific setup (eg. B&K 1/4" mics and a Ultrasoundgate, AnaBat or SongMeter). Its quite crucial information to have when setting up recordings in the field, especially when you want to conclude anything about flight patterns in distinct habitats - if you don't know the recording range of your device, how do you really know where the bat you've recorded was flying/foraging?
