Hi ALex, it seems I don't get notified about posts anymore, so this comes very late. It was quite likely version <1.2

While sampling frequency is the number one setting to change with the functionality of having recording-period specific settings, the topic is not limited to this setting and @dominic.martin rightly stresses that point. It would be very useful to be able to have specific recording periods follow specific dates, duty cycles, recording dates, etc. so we can address taxon-specific phenology questions comprehensively. At present the Audiomoth is limited in that respect compared to other "competing" products, but this kind of investment could be easily scaled-up by firmware update with a one-time development dost. Note also that one of the main advantages of the Audiomoth - to be very energy-efficient - is currently held back by this limitation, as we consistently apply conservative global settings (that are more energy- and data-consuming) to our deployments to avoid losing what we want to keep only at certain times, even though we then discard a large proportion of the unused data.

Hello @Alex Rogers , Considering we will invest resources into developing Audiomoth-related features to save storage and electricity and that we would not necessarily use the time-setter app (since it is for time-setting), could you elaborate on the difficulty or work needed for implementing recording period-specific sample rates (and other settings) into the configurator (and I suppose it would also require a firmware update)?

Same experience here with our ~100 units used for only one season, after which one or two dozen units are damaged. I observed wasps and bees being interested in the case hole and can also imagine well how these nest-building insects might be interested in drilling a cavity in them.

Careful with the transmission loss of some products of less-established manufacturers found on Alibaba, tested here in Figure 3. Gore still produces the best dedicated products to my limited knowledge. Did anyone end up finding acoustic vents at Porelle membranes?

Hi Cristian, did you get a quote for the GAW333? Their standard sizes are too small, so I am wondering how expensive a custom part would be. What is their minimum order quantity?

Same question here: as the acoustic vents GroupGets purchase option is sold out and limited to 25 units anyway, and since research groups usually need to maintain consistency: what are the specifications (Brand, model, transmission loss) of the original acoustic vents? I remember reading something about AudioMoths using Porex vents but I am not sure (and these don't look like Gore vents).

Hi Linil, even though your DOI link text is correct, the embedded link takes us to the same forum post. I suspect that the first values from the paper are incorrect or not up-to-date, since the different gain settings do lead to more noticeable changes in practice and a range from 27 to 32 dB would make little sense?

A lot of info regarding this topic... Could the official amplification values be settled written inside the configuration app?

It would be great to hear some more info about the micromoth. Where are the CAD files, what is the cost, could we transfer data through another port?

Hi there, congrats on rolling out Audiomoth 1.2 with connectivity to external microphones! However, it is unspecified what kind of microphones could be connected to the Audiomoth with the 3.5mm audio jack. I suppose, only Electret-condensed mics that need a voltage bias? Probably not MEMS elements?

The acrylic case design files are out, they can be found in the resources and the instructions under News. However, it would be more useful to put the building instructions somewhere else on the website so they are easier to find. Also, I wanted to ask: how much is the approximate price of the enclosures (depending on order quantity)? We need to plan the budget for a large EU project.

I posted this Groupgets campaign in the past. In a nutshell, it is overly difficult to get acoustic vents from Gore. GroupGets could not manage to procure these vents without undergoing a fitness for review test so they decided to pull back the campaign. I know that Micbooster also tried to re-sell these vents but was not allowed. The only option seems to be to privately buy a pack of 1000 directly from Gore, and I could do it, to then re-sell them to interested people. But that seems to be too much work and time, that is why in the updated building instructions for the Sonitor microphones (we will submit a second version soon), we recommend testing new, third-party vents like those that can be obtained from Alibaba in batches of 100.

Thanks Justin, this is helpful. It would be interesting to find out whether the results would have different with a different gain setting then... theoretically detection ranges should stay the same but maybe the distortion would have been gone. In that case it would be good to warn bat users about that potential problem when using high gains. We used those just to get more comparable results with the Song meter.
