Update: both programs just started working randomly, I have no clue what happened, I just haven't touched the apps in a couple months and when I did they just magically started working.

Logging in and out didn't help anything. :/

Checked, they have read and write permissions, however within a group it was set to read only, I changed it, tried again and nothing changed. I'll try to change that setting then log out and back in again.

Yep, the time app works with no issues and I can set the time no problem. Could it be something hardware related (doubt it though, the apps worked fine on windows on the same machine)?
