Hello Catherine, I am afraid I have ordered them already (just 50 samples in the end), and they have arrived. I have not put them to use yet, as I am waiting for the boxes etc. They look quite different from the one in the photo above - look thicker/more robust. The white one you see in the photo of mine was provided from Andy to test. I have not looked into how the new ones compare with the old ones either. Out of curiosity, did you not have issues of insects moving in from the opening? Also, I understood correctly that you only used the original plastic bag of the AM as "membrane" between the mic and the outside world?

Hello Laura, we have successfully powered the AudioMoth with a powerbank, by connecting it to the USB port. However, as I believe it has been discussed elsewhere in this forum, the AudioMoth's energy drain is so low that the powerbank goes to sleep (resulting in power loss and - of course - loss of recording settings). We did not really play a lot with that idea, but we have abandonded the powerbank idea at least. Christos

@Alex Rogers Great! I did not realize that the Energizers had such high capacity! I can find those locally. I have Panasonic Pro Power D-cell batteries available (for use with other ARUs) but I could not find out online their capacity. What you recommend is definitely the way to go. I will probably try on of both - one AM with the Energizers (*4 in line) and the other with the SAFT 3.6V (*2 in line). I will share here my findings. The SAFT solution is definitely way more expensive (but should also work in cold weather).

@Alex Rogers This is what we intend to do. Since 6V lantern batteries are really hard to get in Greece (good quality ones I mean), we are instead planning to connect two 17Ah 3.6V Lithium batteries (like this one) and see how long they will be able to last recording 24/7 at 8KHz. They are very expensive, but it will hopefully allow us to get the deployment time we seek. I am looking forward to hearing about the batteries used by Emil (forum post) as well. He reported getting 70-80 days of running time, but I am not sure if he is recording continuously or not. I will share our findings when we end up completing our small pilot (comparing also performance against Cornell's SWIFT sensor).

@Alex Rogers The AMs have the basic firmware. My bad however regarding the question. The problem is that the powerbank goes to sleep as the drain from the AM is very low and not the other way around.

@Alex Rogers Quick question Alex - does this mean that ypu hava managed to make the AM record continuously using a powerbank (usb 5v power source)/ when we tried doing this the AM went to sleep and never recorded. It seems that I should give it another try, based on your comment above.
