Just wanted to comment with my own test. I recorded 30 seconds of silence with the AudioMoth in a quiet room on a soft couch and under a thick fleece blanket. The self noise measured -38dB to -36dB. That amount of noise narrows the radius of bird sound pickup I was hoping for, particular for the quality I was hoping to get for uploading songs and calls to eBird, but for ID'ing birds it's still pretty good. I'll post a screen recording of the self noise with audio below. A while back I got a good lav mic, partly with an eye (ear) toward using it to supercede the AudioMoth's own mic. But I'll need to find someone who knows how to solder.
