We've released updates for the AudioMoth Flash App along with updates to all three official firmwares (Basic, USB Mic, and GPS Sync). The Flash App can now use USB HID flashing to apply firmware to AudioMoths. This new flashing method is more robust than the previous serial flashing. The firmware updates add support for this too. As well as new flashing methods the app is now able to operate with more than one AudioMoth application open. Previously the AudioMoth Flash App, Time App, and Configuration App would interfere with each other when all attempting to communicate with the same device. We've released updates for all three of the core AudioMoth desktop apps. The updates bring UI changes to all three as well as new features to the Flash and Configuration App. The AudioMoth Flash App now clears the existing settings from a device when it's flashed. The AudioMoth Configuration App has added support for custom time zones and recording summaries. Select a folder or SD card of recordings as a summary file will be generated that contains an overview of information contained in those recordings. We've released a new app! The AudioMoth Live App takes audio from any USB microphone and displays a live scrolling waveform and spectrogram, with options to make continuous recordings, monitor the audio input, or apply a heterodyne bat detector to the input. Download the app here The AudioMoth Live App works with all USB microphones but is specifically designed to work with AudioMoth USB Microphone firmware, which allows all existing AudioMoth hardware versions to be used as configurable USB microphones.

This week we launched AudioMoth GPS Sync to allow AudioMoth recordings to be precisely synchronised against GPS time. The solution consists of custom device firmware that generates standard unsynchronised WAV files along with a custom CSV file containing synchronisation information. A desktop app uses these files to generate synchronised WAV files that are aligned with GPS time to better than 1 microsecond allowing recordings to be used in localisation or multichannel audio applications. See the AudioMoth Labs page, and the association application note, for more details.

We've just released a new web app as part of AudioMoth Labs. Using this tool you can explore filter and amplitude threshold settings on existing AudioMoth recordings before applying them on your AudioMoth in the field. The Chrome browser allows you to load AudioMoth files directly from your computer. If you have not yet installed Chrome, you can still try out the AudioMoth Filter Playground by selecting one of the provided example files. Once you have a configuration you're happy with, export it to a .config file which can be loaded by the AudioMoth Configuration App. Alternatively, export the displayed plots at any time by clicking the camera button in the bottom left. A major update to the AudioMoth firmware adding a number of bugfixes and features, including the much requested feature of retaining configuration settings after power is lost. Now, once a configuration is set using the AudioMoth Configuration App, your AudioMoth will remember its configuration when the batteries are replaced. Make sure you set the clock before you deploy though! Another major feature is added support for chime-based clock setting. This means that a computer and a USB cable are no longer required to set the time on your device (while they can still be used). This tone can come from one of the new AudioMoth mobile apps, or the newly supported RFCx Companion app. Apply the configuration using the AudioMoth Configuration App, then set the clock when out in the field! Updates for the firmware, Configuration App, Time App, and Flash App also include a number of bugfixes and general improvements, including improved clock accuracy, meaning the timestamp of all your recordings will now be even more accurate. Download and apply the new firmware to your devices using the AudioMoth Flash App. Simply open the app and the latest firmware will be available for download. Another minor update to the configuration app and firmware to bring in a bugfix, improve the accuracy of all sample rates, and improve compatibility with older AudioMoth firmware. Previous iterations of the AudioMoth Configuration App had a slight accuracy error wherein the 256 kHz sample rate was slightly higher than 256 kHz exactly. This was unnoticeable with shorter recordings, but resulted in incorrect file lengths with extremely long recordings. The 1.4.4 firmware has been updated to both fix this bug and improve the overall accuracy of sample rates. In order to provide exact sample rate values, 250 kHz was chosen to replace 256 kHz as it is possible to get much closer to this value. Make sure you're using the latest version before making a post in the support forum, as the issue you're having may have been fixed in a subsequent update. Download app here Update notes Download and apply the new firmware to your devices using the AudioMoth Flash App.

Another minor update to the configuration app to bring in some bugfixes. We've fixed a bug in the energy usage calculations, so there may be slight changes to predicted lifespans for existing schedules (in every case this will result in the lifespan being longer than previously estimated). Also included are minor changes to the UI. Make sure you're using the latest version before making a post in the support forum, as the issue you're having may have been fixed in a subsequent update. Download app here Update notes In order to use the new features added in versions 1.3.0 and greater of the Configuration App, you'll need to update your AudioMoth firmware to the latest version (1.4.2). Apply the firmware to your devices using the AudioMoth Flash App.
