Thanks for spotting the link issue. We'll update the datasheet version number with changes. The changes from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 are very minor adjustments to improve the assembly process rather than function. The changes are: • Added fiducial markers to the PCB to help align pick and place machine. • Adjusted low frequency oscillator footprint to improve connection during assembly.

Hi Chris, The audio processing chain of AudioMoth from 1-4: 1. Microphone 2. Static Hardware amplifier with a voltage gain of 10 3. Adjustable software amplifier with an adjustable voltage gain, ranging from 0.33 to 30 4. ADC - AudioMoth uses a 2.5V reference voltage on the ADC, meaning 2.5V is the highest signal level the ADC can convert. Recordings are centered at 1.25V, so I assume the zero-to-peak voltage of AudioMoth is ±1.25V. I hope this helps. As the external mic is affected, it is likely there is corrosion to other parts of the circuitry making the device difficult to save.

The internal MEMS mic will most likely be permanently damaged due to the water exposure. Is the silent noise present when using the external mic as well?

Can you see if ‘Local Security Authority protection’ is enabled in the Windows Security / Device security control panel. Try switching that off and rebooting. Enabling it stops the app. Turning it off - the default setting - and rebooting starts the app working again. You must reboot the PC though.

Could you type ‘Device Manager’ in the start menu? Then compare what you see against these examples.

That's great, this is what I would expect meaning the device is working. The strange times are due to the time not being set on the AudioMoth and the CONFIG.TXT is an output file that is generated by AudioMoth, it shouldn't be edited. Thanks for sharing the screenshot, we'll have a look at this on a Windows 11 machine and get back to you.

Could you share a screenshot? Are there any links you can follow on the pop up window. If you put an SD card in the device, does it record when the switch is in DEFAULT mode?

Thanks for trying that. Does it appear in the device manager as a USB device?

Might be worth trying another cable if you can just to make sure we can rule that out. If you are still having no luck with the cables, could you check the Device Manager and see if AudioMoth is listed as a USB device. Sometimes old Windows 10 USB drivers conflict with AudioMoth and need deleting, such as EasyLog. But most often it is a cable issue.

The most common cause of this is USB cable issues, has your new cable worked before or on another device? Have you recently updated to Window 11?

Do you have any of the other AudioMoth Desktop Apps open at the same time (including the AudioMoth Flash App)?

In the underwater case the self noise of AudioMoth 1.1 is amplified. The noise appears as artifacts in the recording. The artifacts can be seen as high frequency low amplitude impulses representing SD card writes. The noise can be reduced by using good quality Lithium batteries and low energy SD cards. If you are recording at a lower sample rates <48kHz, the noise generally doesn't appear.

Hi Carly, Yes, there is little to no global microcontroller stock at the moment, suppliers are estimating that AudioMoth chips will be back by 2023. We can't give accurate estimates, but are hopeful for a new batch of AudioMoths by early next year with the availability of the new supply. We will prioritise AudioMoth 1.2.0 manufacture when the chip supplies do come back. For cases, GroupGets and LabMaker have plenty of the terrestrial and underwater versions if you need them. Thanks,

The metadata will be there, but it may take a while to load on Mac if you have many large files.

The soldering looks good to me. Do both the modified SPM0204UD5 with external circuit and Animal sound Labs ME4-em have the same issue. Does the AudioMoth external mic work with any other electret condenser microphones you have? Might need the wiring you used to connect these mics up to the 3.5mm jack to diagnose further. For diagnostics, @Alex Rogers has a nice test - here's the video from twitter. When AudioMoth switches between internal and external microphone, you can see it closing the current file and starting a new file each time the microphone is changed, this works best when recording at 192kHz. You can see the files close whenever the LED stops flashing. Does your unit do this?
