Persistent interference at 8 kHz and 16 kHz

Hello,

I recently purchased two AudioMoth 1.2.0 units, and I have updated the firmware to version 1.12.1.

I have been testing continuous recordings at 48 kHz, using both the "Low" and "Medium" gain settings.

In both units, I consistently observe strong interference around 8 kHz and 16 kHz, regardless of where the recordings are made. The interference is always present, even when recording in different locations.

The only way I have found to significantly reduce it is to cover the microphone with my finger.

Have you encountered this issue before? Could this be related to the AudioMoth hardware, firmware, or microphone?

Hi, What make and model of batteries and SD cards are you using? Make sure you have tried making a recording outside away from obvious sources of electrical interference such as a laptop or power supply. Alex

AudioMoth 1.1.0 and Live App not working

Hey,

I have an older AudioMoth 1.1.0 and updated to the latest AudioMoth USB Microphone firmware 1.3.2 and wanted to use it with the Windows AudioMoth Live app.

After startup of the AudioMoth Live App, the AudioMoth in USB/OFF mode I get the error message: Initialisation error: Could not initialise the input device. Is the older 1.1.0 AudioMoth not able to run the AudioMoth USB Microphone firmware? Did I do something wrong? Any help appreciated! Thanks - Rob

Hey Alex, seems I was just on the wrong track - I had the impression I red somewhere that the AudioMoth has to be in USB/OFF mode to work as USB microphone and I only tried this mode and CUSTOM. Switching to DEFAULT made the AudioMoth active in the Live app.

Does the dev-case work w external microphone and gps add-on?

I'm about to set up a set up AudioMoth Dev with a GPS-module to sync the time, and an external microphone such as the Clippy EM272 Mono Microphone.

1) Should I chose the AudioMoth GPS Hat or the AudioMoth GPS Board for this?

2) Does the above solution with GPS and external 3,5mm microphone work with the AudioMoth Dev Case?

The reason for asking qstn 2 is that I've seen "Case not compatible when using an external mic" stated for the Dev Board at LABmaker's site.

Thanx for clarifying, Alex.

The new AudioMoth External Microphone looks interesting. However, I would need longer cables in order to pick up sound many meters above ground and yet be able to manage the AudioMoth at ground level.

Is it possible to prolong the cable for the AudioMoth External Microphones?
If I make my own microphones, how long can the cable be to still retain a good signal to noise ratio and which type of cable would be required?

AudioMoth-Live app locked at 48kHz

Newbie here.

I use a Vleermic 384kHz samplerate USB microphone. It works flawlessly on my Apple devices with a range of apps. All devices have their latest OS.

The AudioMoth-Live app on my M1 MBP has many options greyed out and its sample rate is locked at 48kHz. The mic itself is definitively seen, but I can only see up to 24kHz.
