Problem with the version in the settings

Hello, good morning.

I would like to ask for your guidance and assistance regarding this message that appears when I try to configure my AudioMoths.

First of all, I do not have the option to click on “Flash AudioMoth.” Also, when I try to configure the device, the version appears as 0.0.0, and I get the following message (I have attached a screenshot).

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi, Where did this AudioMoth originate from? Either the firmware is very old or it is an unusual version for some reason. Make sure you have the most up to date version of the Flash App, and then follow the instructions under the 'Show Manual Switch Intructions' menu option, to manually put the AudioMoth into flash mode. Problem with Configuration

Hello,

I have a question about the settings for my AudioMoth 1.2.0. I use the AudioMoth for bat monitoring. In the caves where the bats live, there’s also dripping water. This frequently triggers my recorder, which then unnecessarily fills up my memory.

What settings could I adjust so that it really only records the bats—specifically the lesser horseshoe bats (approx. 100–120 kHz)?

Attached is my best configuration so far, but it still records far too much "noise."

Best regards,

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Frequency triggers tend to be less sensitive to background noise. If you already have a regular recording of the sound of interest, you can try out the effect of the frequency trigger settings in AudioMoth Play (https://play.openacousticdevices.info).

I run Audiomoth software on a 2018 Mac mini with an Intel processor. I recently updated my MacOS and got a message to say that future future updates would not support Application (Intel) and that I needed to update apps to a Application (Universal) or Application (Mac) version.

Will there be a Universal or Mac version of AudioMoth software soon?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, all the apps will be updated over the next couple of months with universal binaries for Intel and Apple Silicon machines. Apple will drop support for Intel only apps on Apple Silicon devices in 2027. All the Open Acoustic Devices apps will be universal binaries by then and will continue to work on all Macs.

Had some... issues

Hello,

I was testing with the audiomoth USB mic and realized the firmware was delivered as firmware 1.3.0.

(plugged into PC USB port for live reading trough app)

So I updated it to the latest 1.12.1.

After this the mic stopped recording sound using the live app in all modes.

After messing with the config app for a bit i couldnt get it to read the live recording trough the Live app anymore.

Hi,

In the Flash App, you need to select the ‘AudioMoth USB Microphone’ firmware under the ‘Firmware’ menu.

You have flashed your device with the standard AudioMoth firmware (AudioMoth-Firmware-Basic) rather than the firmware for AudioMoth USB Microphone (AudioMoth-USB-Microphone). The most up to date version of the AudioMoth-USB-Microphone firmware is 1.3.2.

Follow the instructions in the Flash App to switch to flash mode manually (this is available under the 'Show Manual Switch Instruction' menu option if the Flash App does not prompt you to use it), flash the device with the correct firmware, and the device will work again. To do so, you will have to short out the programming pins on the front of the AudioMoth USB Microphone at the same time as plugging in the USB cable. It’s fiddly but will always work. This forces the device straight into flash mode (by running the bootloader) and the Flash App will see it.

You haven’t damaged the AudioMoth USB Microphone, just flashed it with firmware for another device. The bootloader is still intact and you can recover it by following the instructions in the flash app under ‘Manually switch to flash mode’.

However, be careful probing the electronics with your multimeter set to measure current. You are effectively applying a short circuit across the probes. This shouldn’t cause any damage, but won’t really tell you anything either.
